Garden Safety: we pass on some essential advice

How to stay safe in your garden

Autumn in the garden and we guessing you’ might be contemplating a big tidy up before winter comes. Dry days are great for pruning, trimming, sweeping and clearing.

Your garden furniture could probably do with cleaning and putting undercover. Walls, paving, patios and paths all benefit from weeding and sweeping. It's a good move to remove any build up of moss or algae on slabs by using a stiff brush and water or a pressure washer.

Paving Slabs Pressure Washer

Before you get out the strimmers, hedge cutters and pressure washers we did want to share with you some wise words from Electrical Safety First.

Top tips for Garden Safety

1 Use a Residual Current Device (RCD) with all outdoor electrical equipment. If you don't have one built into your fuse box, you should use a plug-in RCD

2 Switch off and unplug electrical items before cleaning, adjusting or checking them

3 Store equipment in a dry, safe place and check that it hasn't been damaged or affected by water before using it

4 Be aware of where the electrical power cable is at all times

5 Never use electrical equipment in wet conditions!

You can read their Top Tips in detail here

You can also check your electrical equipment against their lists of faulty products which should be recalled - apparently, there are millions of faulty goods in UK homes which risk giving users an electrical shock, but only 10-20% are returned!

If you’ve got the old electrical garden equipment we strongly recommend you get a qualified electrician to check that they are fit for purpose.
