Discover garden paving designed for UK gardens

Garden paving made by UK companies with you in mind

While natural stone always delivers looks and quality, many homeowners have wised up to the wide choice of concrete garden paving products manufactured in the UK. Product development is pretty impressive these days and you’ll find choice of colour and texture in all price ranges.

Paving colour charts

Marshalls create useful colour charts for their paving products, so you can compare slabs with the same ‘look’. They’ve also grouped them to show similar textures with handy thumbnail images for close comparison. You’ll find these in their latest brochure - free on request and a great resource for helping you choose your paving slab. Or try out their latest Inspire Me! App available at the App Store or on Google Play. So, if you’ve decided on a colour palette to complement your garden and house, then your next step is to select paving with a surface texture you like, check out any site usage and installation issues that might affect your choice and last but not least, consider cost.

On trend and contemporary is the cool granite stone look – think calm greys and silvers for outdoor living spaces that harmonise with white interiors. Our paving team think Marshalls Argent garden paving range is worth a really good look. It’s made of British granite aggregates and you can see the texture and sparkle of the stone particles in the surface of the slabs. The dark and light colours lend themselves to bold geometric paving patterns. This is premium concrete paving, designed and manufactured to a high quality, and it looks stunning. The installation guide warns that cutting must be with diamond tipped power saw or a hammer and bolster, as its high stone content will blunt a saw designed for your usual concrete block or slab!

Want a slab designed for the DIY home? Stonemarket paving designers got their heads around the homeowner’s desire for quick, easy DIY installation and came up with NEXTpave. Millstone NEXTpave paving are  concrete slabs which look like good old Yorkstone, traditionally a very popular choice in garden design for its warm honeyed tones and rustic riven surface. NEXTpave has an innovative base design which means it can be laid straight onto a sand screed base - no mortar needed - and its moulding makes neat, uniform joints. They do recommend garden edging blocks for a NEXTpave patio and their Stonemarket Fast Point jointing compound for a successful, long-lasting installation.

Have you looked at vitrified slabs?

We are so impressed with Marshalls SYMPHONY Vitrified Garden Paving. Boy, have they worked hard to deliver a product that’s ideal for both landscapers and homeowners! Vitrified slabs are exposed to high levels of heat just as porcelain or ceramic tiles are. It means Symphony Vitrified paving slabs are technically very strong. They’ve got great proven longevity, but are also very light. At 20mm thickness, they’re easy to handle. Those are two big plus points for installation times and cost. The vitrified manufacturing process also results in ultra-low water absorption. So, the good news for purchasers is that their flags are less prone to staining, resist algae and moss and they are very easy to clean.

These slabs not only look great. They’ve got excellent slip resistance which exceeds domestic requirements and means they create outdoor spaces that are safe for families. Digitisation of production mean they are dimensionally secure, have excellent size tolerance, are consistent in colour, looking beautiful and authentic every time, every pack the same.

And here’s another great advantage of a vitrified slab - Symphony comes in twelve colour ways, which is really outstanding for a paving product. Marshalls added three more just this year: Ivory, Ecru and Black. It’s worth requesting samples as then you’ll be able to appreciate the textural qualities across the colour palette. With four slab sizes and mixed size project packs to choose from, and a bespoke jointing compound included in the price to ensure a fantastic, robust finish, we think this is a 5* slab worth checking out!
