Will there possibly be a colour variation in my paving? With Natural Stone Paving, there is a possibility that there is a slight colour variant due to the Natural Products. We suggest ordering a sample of any paving product you like before ordering to ensure the colour is correct. With Manufactured Paving, there may also be a slight colour variation due to the Manufacturing Process. In this situation, we suggest making sure that have enough paving for you area to limit colour variations between Manufacturing Processes. Can I lay paving in the rain? Yes. With the Weatherpoint 365 Jointing Compound, you can not only lay paving in the rain, but you can do jointing in the rain, too. Just make sure your foundations do not become too wet or your paving surface could be affected.
How deep should the foundations be? Foundations for garden pavers need to be at least 150mm deep. If you are putting a patio or pavers next to your house, the surface of your patio must also be 150mm below the damp proof course of the house. The depth of driveway foundations depends entirely on the total weight that will be on the driveway at any one time.
What weight can the pavers/slabs take? As a rule of thumb, pavers under 50mm thickness will NOT be suitable for use in a driveway as there is not enough stone to cope with the weight of a vehicle. Call us on 01529 308839 and we will advise a suitable paver thickness for your driveway.
Is the foundation depth dependent on the carrying weight? Yes, if you are laying a driveway you will need considerably deeper foundations than if you are laying a patio. So, for instance, garden patio foundations are around 150mm deep. A driveway for around four tonnes of vehicle will need around 300mm of foundations. But call us on 01529 308839 for an accurate calculation.
How much paving do I need? There is a handy Paving Calculator available on each product, so the hard work is done for you. All you need to know is the area you want to cover. You should also allow for wastage – so you can ensure you still have enough slabs or blocks available to complete your paving project if you drop one, or make a mistake when cutting.
How easy is it to lay the patio myself? Laying a patio is fairly straightforward if you plan ahead. Take a look at our Hints & Tips page on Laying a Patio which should give you a few good pointers. Any more queries? Give us a call on 01529 308839.
How far in advance do I need to place my order? Turnbull aims to deliver pretty swiftly - within 4 to 6 working days of your order. However, some products’ availability may be different, so do call our team to check on 01529 308839.
Can I get jointing compounds coloured to match the slabs? Yes, Weatherpoint 365 is available in three colours; Buff, Stone Grey and Black. One of these should match your paving slabs closely or provide a nice contrast.
Will the colour of my paving slabs fade over time? Concrete pavers and natural stone will both fade slightly over time due to sunlight and weathering. Artificially coloured concrete pavers will fade more - and more quickly - than natural pavers. If you are concerned about fading, we recommend buying Vitrified paving (link here to products) which will fade less over a long period of time. Colour differences are also apparent across different batches of product, so it makes sense to order as much as you need at the beginning of your project.
Will anything stain the pavers/slabs, for instance fat and oil? Yes, some household and DIY products will stain your paving slabs. If you spill any fat or oil from a barbecue, for instance, it will soak into the paving stones and create areas of discolouration. The quicker you clean a spillage the more likely it is that it will not make a permanent mark. Avoid using strong or undiluted acids directly on the pavers/slabs, as this will cause discolouration and possibly long- term damage to the pavers. For further information on any specific stains, call our helpful team on 01529 308839.
